At the KFWE in Tel Aviv, I arrived early. My policy is to turn up at opening time, see who I want to see, taste what I want to taste and leave early. That is before the crowds arrive, thrusting their glasses at the pourers saying “give me your best red!” This is the big kosher food and wine exhibition that takes place annually in New York, Miami, Los Angeles, London and Tel Aviv. It is organized by Royal Wine like a roadshow. Represented are some of the best kosher wines from everywhere. It is an opportunity to touch base with existing and new wines, because the portfolio is always growing. The Tel Aviv KFWE is organized by Zur Agencies. They are the leading kosher specialists of imported wines here and Royal’s arm in Israel.

I recently was invited to a Shabbat meal in Paris by Menachem Israelievitch, winemaker of Royal Wine Corp. He generously opened a bottle of Château Léoville Poyferré 2005. Looking at the label it looks exactly like the regular wine. However, with your glasses on, looking closely at the capsule, you will discover it is a kosher cuvée. Furthermore, in the kosher niche, it is one of the best performing kosher wines in quality terms.

Royal Wine Corp of Bayonne, New Jersey, is the most important company in the kosher wine world. They are outstandingly the largest producer, importer and distributor of kosher wine in America, but they have tentacles all over the world. Owned by the Herzog family, it was Royal Wine that spread the kosher revolution, raised standards of quality and reaching new countries over the winemaking globe.
